While here in the United States we have the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup, over in the United Kingdom they have the famous Cheltenham Festival. This betting extravaganza runs four days and usually coincides with Saint Patrick’s Day.

Next Tuesday starts the fun as opening day, otherwise known as Champion Day where past horses are paraded before the crowds. This is followed by Ladies Day where fashion takes a step forward and everyone is dressed to the nines. The raucous and crazy Irish ‘craic’ happens Thursday before finally ending with the Gold Cup on Friday for the finale.

This is just a bettors dream. Let’s take a look at a couple of the more marquee races.

The most famous race on day 1 is the Championship Hurdle.  It should come down to two favorites The New One (listed as 3/1*) and the popular Hurricane Fly (10/3*), who has already won this race twice before. One horse that could crash the party will be My Tent or Yours.

Another race to watch is the Queen Mother Champion Chase. If Sprinter Sacre is ready to run it should romp on Ladies Day. If not Sire de Grugy could come up and steal the show.

St Patrick’s Thursday features the World Hurdle where Big Buck’s will be the probably favorite with Annie Power following close behind.

The finale Gold Cup race features last year’s winner Bob’s Worth looking to repeat as champion. Can he do it? Horses like Long Run will try to show that a third place finish last year was no fluke.

Take a look at the schedule (see all). Just an amazing amount of races.
