Gerard Pique is a beast of a poker player

Gerard Pique is one of the best known footballers in Europe at the moment, mainly for being Mr Shakira, the lucky devil. A high profile transfer to Barcelona from Manchester United in 2004 may have helped matters – Pique now plays as a centre back for Barcelona, and for Spain as part of a World Cup and Euro League winning team.

As well as being a top footballer, and a good looking chap, Pique is also an experienced poker player. He uses his summer break to play poker, and makes appearances on the international pro scene. He sat down at the Barcelona leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in 2011, and made an appearance at this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP). His live tournament winnings weigh in at over $89k – not that he’s strapped for cash.

Pique has become such a prolific poker player that he ranks 133rd on the Spain All Time Money List. In September he increased his winnings with a 19th place in a No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Eight Handed tournament, which made him richer by a tidy $27,000. Not a bad day’s work.
