The 2012 Daytona 500 could go down as the craziest race ever. From the rain postponing the event from its usual Sunday spot to Juan Pablo Montoya’s crash into a jet dryer that caused an extended delay, the start of the Sprint Cup series was pretty eventful.
The eventual winner Matt Kenseth won a really cool all expense paid trip to Charlotte for The Smoking Jacket. Unfortunately the SCP driver, Aric Almirola was involved in a crash with only 12 laps left in the race.
It was my first time tracking a single car throughout a race and it made my experience really enjoyable. Aric raced his heart out moving the #43 into the top 5 with a handful of laps to go. He made a fan out of me and hopefully he and the Richard Petty Motorsports team can build on this and finish better next weekend in Phoenix .
