Microsoft Bing and the Decode Jay-Z Case Study

I don’t know how long this video has been out there, but I just saw it and found it very interesting. With the mind of Droga5, Microsoft and Jay-Z teamed up to promote his new book “Decoded.”

It was very creative the way Bing released clues on where to find pages of the book. They just didn’t use the usual outlets like billboards, you could find excerpts on a pool table, burger wrappers, and even the lining of a jacket.

Not only did this campaign help with book sales, Bing saw a gigantic increase in usage as well. Pure genius.

ARG’s seriously the best ways to advertise and market. Nine Inch Nails did one for an album release and car companies have done it. They get people in volved and the satisfaction one gets from solving a clue or a puzzle, cause them to tell their friends and then it just becomes a snowball effect.
