2010 World Cup Gambling: Day 1

Being the degenerate that I am it is only right that I supply you with some winners (most likely losers) for this 2010 World Cup. But who knows, maybe I can replicate the great success I had in 2006 with the Italians winning it all at 12-1.

So to kick it off we have the host nation South Africa against an underrated (IMO) Mexican team. I don’t claim to know much about Bafana Bafana, but the one thing I do know is that they have trouble scoring. And against Mexico they will have to score to keep up. Whoever starts up front for El Tri (Franco, Hernandez) will force the pace early, with the other coming in late to finish off a tired South African defense.

I really can’t envision it being as close as the oddsmakers do. But then again they know a lot more than I do.

The second game features a powerful attacking Uruguay team against the star studded French. The names Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez strike fear in the hearts of any defense. But the lack of any playmaker to get them the ball is going to be a big issue, especially with the back of the Les Bleus defense being protected by Patrice Evra, William Gallas, and Bacary Sagna.

So many stars up front for France including Florent Malouda, Franck Ribery, and Nicolas Anelka just to name a few. I just hope Raymond Domenech plays them the right way. He probably won’t, but it won’t stop me from backing France in this one.

Pick: 2 game parlay: Mexico +160 (ties lose) and France +115 (ties lose)…pays 4.5 to 1

Record: 0-0
