How About Some Fucking Perspective?

Yes, it was bad. Jim Joyce made a terrible call. A perfectly pleasant gentleman destined to have a very pedestrian major league career was robbed of his moment of immortality.

But Jim Joyce apologized. Armando Gallaraga accepted the apology. Jim Leyland accepted the apology. Bud Selig says Major League Baseball is looking into it.  Shouldn’t that be enough?

Apparently not, for the elected officials in the Wolverine State.

First, Governor Jennifer Granholm

Granholm issued a proclamation Thursday saying that Galarraga pitched a perfect game on Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians.

But that’s not all

Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow on Thursday urged Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to invoke the “Best Interests of the Game” clause to declare Galarraga’s performance perfect, and Rep. John D. Dingell says he’ll introduce a congressional resolution asking MLB to overturn the call.

Maybe it’s just me, but if I were representing the state with the highest unemployment rate in the country and a major city which is wrought with corruption, debt and foreclosed property, perhaps I would spend my time on more important issues than a journeyman pitcher’s quest for a statistical anamoly.
