Knicks Almost Done Sucking

The days of being a loser as a Knick fan are coming to an end. At least thats according to Donnie Walsh, the team’s president, who said on Tuesday that he thinks the Knicks are ready to be a winning basketball team next season.

The knicks haven’t won a playoff series since 2000 and David Lee just ended their ten year drought in the all-star game. In truth, the Donnie Walsh era hasnt been much different than the reign of the disastrous Isiah Thomas. The only difference being the Knicks are now in a position to finally sign the superstar they have been lacking since the departure of Patrick Ewing.

The Knicks sabotaged any chance of making the playoffs the last two seasons by trading away the bloated contracts of players like Zach Randolph and Jamel Crawford, so they could clear enough salary- cap space to maybe sign Lebron james and a wingman in the offseason. “We’re going to get good players,” Walsh said. “Better players than we could have gotten in a trade, better than we could have gotten in the draft, other than if you had gotten in the top five.” You got to give Donnie credit, no matter how bad things have gotten at Madison Square Garden the last decade, he remains optimistic about the future.

No reason not to be optimistic. I’m not one of the people taking Lebron’s arrival for granted, but I think it’s a pretty safe bet that SOME quality player is going to want to be king of New York this summer.

Gotta remember our cap space goes further than just the free agents, it also gives us great possibilities for a sign-and-trade.

I think the Knicks had to do what they’ve done. Otherwise they’d be winning 30 games a year for the next five years with bad contracts. They might not get LeBron but might as well go all out and do everything possible to get him, or a guy in a tier below.
