The Boston Globe is in the middle ofÂ a series ofÂ “whatever happened to..?” profiles. The latest subject is Bernie Carbo, whose pinch hit home run sent game 6 of the 1975 World Series into extra innings, setting the stage for Carlton Fisk’s dramatic game winner.
But, considering this quote, maybe we should all be a bit more impressed with what Carbo was able to accomplish:
â€œI probably smoked two joints, drank about three or four beers, got to the ballpark, took some [amphetamines], took a pain pill, drank a cup of coffee, chewed some tobacco, had a cigarette, and got up to the plate and hit,â€™â€™ Carbo said.
He homered like that! I’ve seen people sleep through their own bachelor party because they had a few beers and a few shots.
