Is There A “One Shining Moment” Hex?

CBS says Jennifer Hudson is taking over as the voice of “One Shining Moment.” She’ll be the first woman to ever do the song, which runs at the conclusion of the NCAA tournament every season.

This whole thing concerns me a bit.

Hasn’t Jennifer Hudson been through enough?  Her family was the target of a brutal triple murder in October, 2008.  Now this?

At first blush, this sounds like a great honor, but think about why CBS needs Jennifer Hudson to do a new version of the song. Previous incarnations were performed by Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. Do you know what they have in common? Other than fantastic singing voices, they are both dead. And they both died at relatively young ages.

We talk about Madden curses and Sports Illustrated cover jinxes. Well, maybe there is something to the “One Shining Moment” Hex. Think about it.

I’m not sure what happened to the original guy, but here’s his first version from 1987.

I just think your reasons for writing this article makes you like a stright jack ass of a person. People stop trying to read to much into things(think). Please just be happy for JHUD and the song, because she is singing the hell out of it. I wonder too if race played a part of your reason for not thinking also. I believe if CBS had picked a white singer would you have thought the same dam thing. However CBS did not chose Hudson for your crazy stupid reasons. They chose her because she is the best female vocalist in the business, and they knew she would deliever.
