During college, I was an intern in the sports department of a Boston TV station. The rumor going around the department at that time was that the Flyers had traded Rod Brind’amour to Carolina because his wife was having an affair with Eric Lindros. There was never any evidence to back that up, but it’s a story I was always happy to believe. Earlier this year, a similar rumor came out about Jeff Carter and Scott Hartnell. And that made me realize the original story probably wasn’t true. And I became sad.
But today, I am feeling a little better about things, because the world of soccer has provided me with a replacement story, and confirmation that its true.
Whenever I think shooting competition the first name that always comes to my mind is Dwight Howard. Don’t get me wrong, he is as personable as any NBA star; but wouldn’t you rather team up a player like Dwyane Wade with Lebron James in the remake of Larry Bird and Michael Jordan’s McDonalds commercial. Then again ad executives always know better.
Check out the preview of the commercial that will run Super Bowl Sunday.
“Never open an email from Phil Simms with your kids in the room.”
Who knew Jim Nantz could be funny? That was just one of the great lines he delivered during a surprisingly raunchy appearance on a very sports heavy episode of “How I Met Your Mother” last night.
I say surprisingly raunchy because of Nantz’s recent mini-controversy over his divorce and the much younger woman he has since shacked up with. (Shacked up? What am I? 75 years old?)
