Another former professional athlete has decided to toss his hat into the Political Ring. This time it’s former NBA Center Chris Dudley.
Dudley, 44, entered the Republican race for governor with a carefully worded speech that stuck to GOP orthodoxy on jobs, government spending and natural resource development, but that also tried to assure voters he cares about quality schools and strong environmental protections.
I’m sort of torn on this one. On one hand, Dudley was one of my favorite players as a kid. When he was a Net, I was amazed by the fact that he had made the NBA out of Yale. Later on, he became a key player on the Knick teams that made me love basketball. Plus, he managed to do it all while battling type 1 diabetes (the genetic kind, not the morbid obesity kind), which was extra impressive.
On the other hand, though, he’s a Republican. So… I hope he goes down in flames.
