Against the Spread: 2009 College Football Week 7

The record might not be the best, but as any good gambler knows….It is all about the units. Remember that. And just like “Ballon Boy”…these picks are just for show.

Oklahoma vs. Texas 12PM

The game of the day. Is Texas the team that stands up and plays the winner of Florida/Alabama? Or does Oklahoma show that the two losses without Sam Bradford were just an aberration? A couple things jump out at me. Oklahoma loves to run the ball. Too bad they are facing the Longhorns number 1 rated rush defense. And don’t forget that Texas brings back Jordan Shipley. He has caught double digit passes over the last three games. Look for that to continue and a big special returns play to keep the Longhorns on track for the National Championship game.

Pick – Texas -3 2 units

Arkansas vs. Florida 3:30 PM

Florida’s defense is holding opponents to 6.4 ppg and 202.6 yards of total offense. Sick numbers. The pass happy Arkansas team comes to town and will get shut down. Florida will do enough scoring, but I like this to stay under the number

Pick – Under 57.5 1 unit

USC vs. Notre Dame 3:30PM

If I have learned anything this year, betting Notre Dame as a favorite will cost you money. Every game they play seems to be close. Their offense scores points, but their defense gives them up at about the same rate. USC’s defense might have only given up 43 points in their last 5 games, but they haven’t faced a pass offense like the Fighting Irish (Cal was ranked 71st). Since last years debacle at USC, Jimmy Clausen has completed 70% of his throws with 17 touchdown passes and two interceptions while averaging 324 yards per game. That combined with ND’s high school defense…take the over

Pick – Over 50 3 units

California vs. UCLA 3:30PM

The Golden Bears have stunk it up in their last two games against Oregon and USC. But after having the bye week to figure it all out, the offense should be back on track. Jahvid Best will break out and the Cal defense will hold the Bruins inept offense (17 ppg).

Pick – Cal -3.5 2 units

Kentucky vs. Auburn 3:30PM

I love this Auburn team. Last week they threw up a stinker against Arkansas, but all is forgiven. Kentucky QB Mike Hartline is out with tears all over his left knee. This sets up perfectly for that blitzing Tiger defense. Add a mix of Chris Todd and Ben Tate…Gene Chizik’s team rolls BIG

Pick Auburn -13 4 units

Record 10-7 +14.9 units
