Decisions, Decisions…

The Jets, Lions and Browns wasted no time making their most important off season decisions. All three fired their coaches after disastrous seasons.

The Patriots also missed the playoffs, but actually had an excellent season. They won 11 games, despite losing Brady five minutes into the first game. Most of the credit goes to Belichick and his system, but Matt Casell needs to get some love also.

Now, the fun part. NBC says Brady’s rehab is way behind schedule. There’s a chance he may miss significant time next season.  Cassel is a free agent in a league where a number of teams may be looking for a young quarterback to build around.

If you’re the Pats, do you let him walk and trust that Matt Gutierrez and “the system” to hold down the fort till Brady comes back?  Or do you offer Cassel an offer comparable to what other teams may be looking to pay him?

Place the franchise tag on Cassel!

Let Cassel go! He should have never made it out of training camp if you ask me! Gutierrez should have been at the helm when Brady went down! The Patriots know how to groom a QB and Gutz has the skills to “hold down the fort”!

The smart move is to pay Cassel the money, you don’t want to wind up playing against him. Especially when in all liklihood he lands with the Jets. But Bob Kraft is too cheap to keep him. They’ll let him go and he’ll play a bunch of “almost made it” seasons at the big M in the swamp. My call is to pay him and then trade him for a few 1st round picks. If the Patriots had a mind for business they’d release Brady and keep Cassel. Sure Brady is the better QB, but he’s 1/2 way through his career, Cassel has more time on his side.
