Johnson already a giant, yet open to becoming a Giant

Randy JohnsonThe SF Chronicle is jumping the gun and calling Randy Johnson a future Giant, just as the Dallas Morning News speculates he’ll be heading to Texas. If Johnson were to head to SF, of course he will sell tickets in his run to break the 300 win mark (sorta like having Bonds as the freak show main attraction), but he won’t really help the team improve their record. Here are some of the gems from the fired up San Francisco fans:

“I take issue with the idea of [Randy Johnson] as a mentor. What is he going to teach the Giants’ youngsters besides how to perfect a mullet or rough up a cameraman? You can’t teach 6′10”; you can’t teach sheer power.”

More after the jump…

“It figures Randy J would prefer the Giants. The A’s clubhouse is more like a Frat House. The Giants clubhouse is like a retirement home where grumpy old men reside.”

“The Giants don’t need a #5 starter, they need a #4. Barry Sheeto is clogging up a $126M roster spot in the 5 slot.”

“CC Sabathia was on the verge of signing, too. These writers are so weak.”

“It’s all about making money to Sabean and it isn’t about winning. Bring the old man back home to sell tickets, ignore the problems and try to make some money.”

“of course old man johnson says s.f. has a lot of appeal. look at sabeans’ track record - he loves to sign players that are too old and for too much money. sabean’s a fool…”
