November 14, 2008 – 6:34 pm by JustinThe Tampa Bay Lightning have fired Barry Melrose as coach just 16 games into the season. That’s a pretty quick trigger. It’s even more shocking when you consider who has been named interim coach in his place: Rick Tocchet.
Yes, that’s the same Rick Tocchet who was the central figure in an illegal gambling ring which sent a New Jersey State Trooper to jail and Wayne Gretzky’s wife into the headlines, for making some ridiculously large wagers.
On the plus side, Melrose may end up back at ESPN, where he always belonged in the first place.
