Hi, it’s me, the guy who calls people douche bags. We’ve done The Crackle Recommends a bunch of times in the past, but, today, for the first time, we present The Crackle Endorses.
You should vote for Barack Obama.
There is any number of reasons to support the freshman Senator from Illinois. You may back his economic policy or his position on Iraq. Maybe your casting your ballot as a repudiation of the last 8 years of Republican rule or because you fear the possibility of a President Palin.
All are legitimate motivations. But, to me, they all seem too small. There is one reason to support Barack Obama over any other: It’s Time.
It’s time for our generation to step up and take a lead role in directing this nation through the next 20 or 30 years. It’s time for us to grab the baton being passed by the baby boomers and finally take the wheel.
The emotion. The inspiration. The buzz. They’re all real. And, no matter what anyone says, they are a completely legitimate reason to support this candidate. It took me a while to acknowledge that myself. I scoffed at the initial reaction, all the while marveling at the man’s ability to captivate an audience. I didn’t vote for him in the primary, instead deciding to go with experience and hopefully a return to the boom time of the 90’s.
I didn’t get it. Now I do.
He is not one of us. After all, he’s 47 years old. But, Obama represents the changing of the guard. His election would be the final step in the legitimization of the internet age. And it would signal that we are ready to take the lead.
So, vote for Barack Obama on Tuesday. Then, start living up to the message he has delivered.
It is our time.
