Cooperstown Commodities Market

Greg Maddux is headed from the Padres to the Dodgers.  He’s the fourth sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer to be dealt in the last month, joining Pudge Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. and Manny Ramirez.  After the jump, we provide a little perspective on exactly what that means.

In total, those four players have hit 1,423 home runs, driven in 4,748 runs, collected an astonishing 40 gold glove awards, and have been in the top 5 in MVP voting 11 times, with both Griffey and Pudge winning the award once each.  Also, Maddux has 353 wins and 4 Cy Youngs.  They’ve also won 4 World Series.

This is the first time I can remember so much star power being dealt in one season, let alone one month.

Can we bring up how the padres traded him to their biggest rival, the dodgers?? Can you imagine this happening on the east coast?? Regardless of the standings when was the last time any AL East team traded within the division??
