Who do the Yanks call up for Joba?

California Correspondent August 5, 2008 4

Last night Joba Chamberlain strained his shoulder and could be out for a game or more. With the Yankee’s struggling rotation, who do they call up? Peter Abraham has a list of top contenders, including, Darrell Rasner, Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves, Carl Pavano, Chase Wright, Kei Igawa, Jarrod Washburn, Freddy Garcia and others.

With a 5-day rotation, Joba would be scheduled to pitch again on Saturday, when the Yankees visit Anaheim. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of time to make a decision. Given the short time frame, it seems most likely Rasner will throw Saturday. Meanwhile, the Yanks should expedite the rehab for Phil Hughes and begin their desperate search for an August waiver trade.
