Today Apple released a software update for the iPhone that opens up their Apps Store for people to install third-party applications. TechCrunch published an initial list of top downloads from the iPhone Apps Store, and MLB is currently in 2nd place for total paid downloads (embarrassingly behind an application called “Super Monkey Ball”).
The iPhone MLB application allows baseball fans to get live scores and current game information — including line score and players who are on base. It also includes links to watch video highlights shortly after a major play occurs. What it’s currently missing is detailed player stats. Hopefully they add that soon.
If you have an iPhone you can purchase the MLB application for $4.99, which is the typical nickle and diming approach of the MLBAM (fans don’t get anything free).
This list of top apps was generated by TechCrunch at noon Pacific Time today.
