A month after vowing not to gamble for two years, Charles Barkley has entered into a charity poker tournament in Las Vegas. ” The “Ante Up for Africa” event is designed to raise money and awareness for the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Players in the poker tournament put up $5,000 to play, and are asked to donate at least half their winnings.” Many say that Barkley is doing the wrong thing. That he should just cut a check and call it a day. I feel differently. Chuck needs to get the gamble out of his system and he is able to do that by playing in this tourney. He needs to surround himself with people that won’t let him go into the pit and ask for a line of credit and he must have enough will power to stop himself. According to Jason Kidd, he has been able to do so:
“We were at a casino and he said he was on the wagon,” Kidd said during a conference call to promote a celebrity golf tournament. “He’s strong. He didn’t gamble. I think Charles, once he decides not to do something, I think he’s pretty good at keeping his word.”
Good luck Chuck! Next time I go to a casino I will play a hand in your name.
