Is this how the US Court System suppose to work?

First you have the Yankee fan running over a Red Sox fan with her car and now this. A New York Yankee fan and a Red Sox fan get into a fight at a bar. The Yankee fan, Mario Melendez punches the Red Sox fan, David Sanborn in the face and Melendez sues Sanborn over a hand injury. Even better is the fact that some jury awarded him $25,297. How is this even possible? “Melendez testified last week that he injured his right hand on Sanborn’s teeth during the fight, saying he was acting in self-defense.” Huh? Who was on the jury? Who was the defense attorney? I am totally in awe. Someone please explain this to me!

well all i know is that david was drinking 151 rum from 11am till 4:30pm when thing’s went down. he (david) try to pick melendez off the grownd & melendez punched him in self defence. he knocked out david sandborn, & brook his teeth & lip. melendez had 7 peice’s of teeth removed from his right hand. justus was served
