Eight Belles Was A Horse. This Is What Horses Do. They Die.

Justin May 5, 2008 4

As always, Vince Vaughn serves as the voice of reason.

In Old School, Vaughn’s character tried to comfort Luke Wilson over the death of Blue, by explaining that Blue was old, and old people die. That’s how I feel about this Derby situation.

Is it sad? Sure, I guess so. But let’s not pretend it’s the biggest tragedy in the world. Let’s not call Eight Belles brave. Let’s not say she died doing what she loved. Horses don’t have emotions, and she was running because a little man was sitting on her back and smacking her ass, and she wasn’t smart enough to know that he was attached to her.

Also, horses smell terrible.

This is my opinion, and is not neccesarily shared by anyone else who writes on this site.

I think that horse racing needs to enter the 21st century like every other sport, and better regulate the training methods and medications administered to these race horses.
