Zito paid $2.6 million per loss in 2008

California Correspondent April 28, 2008 1

From the Embarrassing Career Moves department, Barry Zito was demoted to the bullpen today after his 0-6 starting record for the SF Giants — only the 3rd pitcher since 1956 to go 0-6 before May. Not that anyone cares about the SF Giants, nor about Barry Zito anymore, but when you take into account his $16 Million per year contract, the Giants have paid him a whopping $2.6 Million per start loss this season.

Had Dave Littlefield, the Pirates Ex-GM, not felt he needed to do something, anything, at the 07 trading deadline and purged 10 million per season on Matt Morris. The SF rotation would have featured both Zito and Morris this year, which would have been about as funny as it could get.
